  • One Billion Rising Campaign

1 in 3 women across the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. That’s ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. Every February, we rise – in hundreds of countries across the world – to show our local communities and the world what one billion looks like and shine a light on the rampant impunity and injustice that survivors most often face. We rise through dance to express joy and community and and celebrate the fact that we have not been defeated by this violence. We rise to show we are determined to create a new kind of consciousness – one where violence will be resisted until it is unthinkable.

This year we are rising for Revolution. We invite you to join us.

  • I Have Seen the Secret of How Women Can Transform Their Lives. Here's How - Khushi Kabir

As told to the One Billion Rising team.
Khushi Kabir is the Global Coordinator for One Billion Rising Bangladesh.

When did I become a feminist? There are lots of moments in every woman’s life that make her stand up for herself and her sisters, and there were many in mine. But the first one that comes to mind is the day I was told I couldn’t take a seat on the bus, simply because I was a woman.

  • One Billion Will Rise With a Revolutionary Zeal on Valentine’s Day, 2015

On April 22, 23 and 24, 2014 all OBR Coordinators from different parts of the world met in Rome to review and plan the future of this global campaign against violence against women and girls which has taken place during the last two years in 207 countries. This is the largest mobilization ever in human history on any issue.

  • Dancing the Revolution

This photo was taken from Sonia Randhawa

There's a rhythm and a dance to life, and sometimes we're too hungry, too beaten, too angry to notice it. On Valentine's Day this year, once again, women are taking bruised, beaten, oppressed bodies, and stamping out a new rhythm, a dance to witness that one billion women experience violence and that this is not acceptable. This year, again, there will be One Billion Rising, a worldwide strike to end that violence, and to build a more equitable world. You're invited to be part of the revolution.

Last year, women rose in Afghanistan, with hundreds of women taking to the streets in a variety of cities across the nation, protesting the rising rates of violence against women and the impunity with which rapists get away with their crimes. This year, pledge cards have been translated into Hindi and are being sent out across South Asia from the Sangat office.
