Reports and discussions about the December 2003 phase one of the World Summit on the Information Society have died down a bit, but new activities surrounding upcoming events are being created and planned already.

One of these efforts is the creation of a new mailing list called "Incommunicado" that focuses on the spread and reappropriation of ICTs across the Global South. It is the follow-up to the Solaris list founded in late 2001 by Geert Lovink and Michael Gurstein. The "Incommunicado" list is co-founded again by Geert Lovink (E-mail: ), a media theorist and Internet critic based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands together with Soenke Zehle (E-mail: ), a media researcher based in Saarbruecken, Germany.

The list is a polylingual space; submissions in English, French, German, and Spanish are welcome. For those who want to subscribe to the list, please visit their site at for more information or e-mail its creators.

In addition to the electronic sources, a new journal was launched called Information Technologies and International Development (ITID). This is intended to be the premier journal in its field, focusing on the intersection of information and communication technologies with economic and social development. It is a peer-reviewed, international, multi-disciplinary quarterly designed for researchers and practitioners from the engineering and social sciences, technologists, policy makers, and development specialists. ITID is edited at the University of Maryland, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Georgia Tech and published by the MIT Press, all located in the United States.

The ITID has announced a call for papers with the theme "The World Summit in Reflection: a deliberative dialogue on WSIS." The call for short works has passed but they are still accepting queries for longer works. For those who want to know more about this publication and the submission details, please visit their website http://mitpress.mit.edu/ITID or e-mail the editors at itid-ed[AT]mit[DOT]edu.

We will be featuring more events and announcements as soon as they are made available. For those who want to publicise WSIS-related events, please send us press releases or information at libay[AT]@isiswomen[DOT]org.
