The WSIS Gender Caucus would like to announce that it has begun a process to recruit a full-time co-ordinator.

The position title is WSIS-Gender Caucus Co-ordinator to be stationed in Geneva, Switzerland from April 2003-December 2004. The co-ordinator will be directly reporting to the WSIS-Gender Caucus Steering Committee.

The Caucus co-ordinator is responsible for co-ordinating the work programme and related activities of the WSIS-Gender Caucus, including organising its participation in the Civil Society and NGO Bureau as the organisational focal point for women's rights and gender equality. This position will provide day-to-day management of all Caucus activities, and lead the information sharing, outreach and capacity development activities of the Caucus. The post holder will be expected to demonstrate commitment to the objectives of the WSIS-Gender Caucus, which is to ensure that gender equality perspectives are integrated in WSIS and its outcomes, including the Plan of Action.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Day to day management and administration of the Gender Caucus work programme and action plan, in collaboration with the GC Steering Committee
  • Reporting to the Steering Committee on ongoing development and implementation of the GC work programme
  • Maintaining an updated database of members and electronic and paper archive of Caucus materials, in conjunction with the electronic secretariat
  • Providing support and input to the electronic secretariat as required
  • Archivist of the activities, reports and correspondence amongst the GC members
  • External contact for organisations interested in learning about GC activities
  • Moderating and chairing discussion carried out by the GC list, including monitoring discussion topics on the list to ensure that the issues discussed are relevant to the GC mission statement (The co-ordinator will also be expected to be pro-active in identifying action points arising from on-line discussions.)
  • Producing regular updates drawing from information collated from the discussion in the GC list and other sources of information.
  • Making all arrangements for effective meetings of the Caucus during the Summit and PrepComs
  • Working with gender advocates to organise events during WSIS and PrepComs
  • Liaison with the WSIS Executive Secretariat on all those issues and programmes where the work and aims of the Caucus are relevant, including representing the Caucus at meetings of the Civil Society and NGO Bureau and ensuring that the interests of women are promoted in the decisions of the Civil Society and NGO Bureau
  • Representing the GC in managing good relationships with all stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Fundraising to support and develop GC activities and a long-term programme on gender and ICT advocacy

The Caucus is looking for someone who holds a university degree or its equivalent, is familiar with ICT policy environment and international organisations involved in ICT sector, and has strong gender equality advocacy and campaigning background gained from NGO, international organisation, civil society or human rights organising. Computer literacy and familiarity with on-line networking tools are a must. The ideal candidate will be a person with proven ability to cope with stress, a lateral thinker who is organised and efficient and has good interpersonal skills. The ability to speak and read languages other than English (especially French) would be an asset. Salary and benefits will be benchmarked against scales offered by international NGOs based in Geneva, Switzerland.
