Participants of the Communication Rights Workshop held in conjunction with the ongoing Asian Regional Conference for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) criticised the Japanese government for its decision to not invite delegates from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) to this Tokyo meeting.

Just when NGOs participating in the Asian Regional Meeting for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) currently being held in Tokyo thought they had scored a landmark victory for getting two seats in the Drafting Committee of this intergovernmental meeting, government delegates from China, India, and Iran, questioned their representation in this important committee.

The United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has launched a new website in connection with its preparation for the World Summit on the Information Society. This site details preparatory activities (regional and international ones) about the series of consultations launched with civil society and non-government organizations (NGOs). The site may be accessed at: http://www.unesco.org/wsis.

The Civil Society Plenary Group is inviting interested groups, institutions and organisations to participate in the upcoming activities being planned for and around the World Summit on the Information Society.
