At the ongoing 2004 World Social Forum in Mumbai, India, are a number of events organised by women NGOs.

A Dialogue between Movements: Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges - organized by the National Network of Autonomous Women's Groups, Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era (DAWN), Marcosur Feminist Articulation (AFM), and Women's International Coalition for Economic Justice (WICEJ), the event will be held on 19 January 2004 at Hall 3 NESCO Grounds from 9 am to 12.

The debate aims to explore the relationship between the multiple dimensions of social identities and social relations. Representatives from the women's movement, the labour movement, the gay rights movement and the Dalit/race movement will present how they have dealt with the issues of violence, work, and religious fanaticism.

Invited speakers are: Gina Vargas (Womens Movement Peru), Sunila Abeyesekere (Womens Movement - Sri Lanka), Alejandra Sarda (LGBT Movement - Latin America), Martin (Dalit/Race Movement India), David Haslam (Dalit/Race Movement UK), Sonny Melencio (Labour Movement-Philipines) with Moderators Candido (Brazil) and Mallika Dutt (USA).

Crises, Violence, and Rights: Finding Human Security in a Globalising World--jointly organised by the National Council for Research on Women Centre for the Study of Women and Society, The Feminist Legal Research Centre, Women's International Coalition for Economic Justice and Swashraya, the seminar will be held on 19 January 2004 from 5 to 8 p.m at Room C78 NESCO Grounds.

The seminar will be have the following speakers: Charlotte Bunch, Rosalind Petchesky, Carol Barton, Kristen Timothy, Bina Srinavasan, Rabab Abdulhadi, Linda Basch, Patricia Clough , Jasbir Puar , Ratna Kapur, Uma Narayan, Sunila Abeysekera, Catherine Sameh, Anuradha Sharma

The Struggle against Exploitative Migration Especially Trafficking of Women and Children: The Globalisation of Gender Insecurity--organised by the International Movement against All Forms of Discrimination and Racism (IMADR) from 1 to 4 p.m. on 20 January 2004 at Hall 3 NESCO Grounds.

The event will bring together survivors from trafficking/sexual exploitation and prominent speakers from countries such as Belgium, India, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Netherlands, Philippines, South Korea and Sri Lanka.

The objectives of the panel are:

  • To denounce the gender insecurity caused by trafficking (local, domestic and international), listen to the testimony of women survivors, and transmit their messages to all participants; 
  • To establish the responsibility of States and civil societies, whose masculinist and racist police and immigration policies intensify the insecurity of the victims of exploitative migration, and propose another world free of exploitative migration, and; 
  • To proclaim our solidarity with all the victims, support their de-stigmatisation and empowerment, and declare our resolution to promote a world without exploitative migration through all means--domestic, regional and international--including the United Nations, by using its present Year against Slavery and by proposing a UN Year to Combat Trafficking.
