The thousands left homeless and hungry by Cyclone Sidr that hit Bangladesh badly need development aid. Naripokkho, a women's activist group, is now urgently calling for support for those affected by the calamity. Find out how you can extend your support.

When Cyclone Sidr hit Bangladesh on November 16, it has left as many as 3,000 people dead and millions of others homeless.

The cyclone has caused horrific devastation and loss of life, especially in the south-western coastal districts of the country. Death toll continues to rise as more and more bodies are found. Distraught people are recounting how one child slipped away while they were trying to save another, or how they watched their mother or father being swept away. Entire villages have been raised to the ground—neither a tree nor a house was left standing.

Naripokkho, a women’s activist group based in Bangladesh, is now contributing to the emergency relief efforts of their partner organisations through contributions in cash and kind (clothing, blankets, and shawls). The Naripokkho Network Project is mobilising support for the 81 member organisations in the affected area and the Naripokkho Violence Agianst Women (VAW) Monitoring Project is extending support to two partner organisations in Satkhira and Bhola.

Naripokkho is now urgently appealing to all friends and partners to contribute in whatever way they can to help those affected by the disaster.
