Media practitioners and activists in the Asian region met to discuss issues of human rights, online political expression and activism, and Internet laws and media censorship in the Free Expression in Asian Cyberspace: A Conference of Asian Bloggers, Podcasters and Online Media conference on 19-21 April 2006 at the Asian Institute of Management Conference Center, Makati City, Philippines. Speakers came from all over Asia, reporting from countries where Internet access is highly regulated and free speech is not a guaranteed right, came to participate in the four-day conference. The Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA), in cooperation with the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), sponsored the event.
