The Nonprofit Open Source Initiative (NOSI) has released on October 9 a new primer, titled, “Choosing and Using Free and Open Source Software: A Primer for Nonprofits.” It aims to aid nonprofit organisations in learning the ropes of using free and open source software (FOSS).

“Choosing and Using Free and Open Source Software: A Primer for Nonprofits” has recently been released by the Nonprofit Open Source Initiative (NOSI), an organisation committed to facilitate and encourage the use of open source software in the nonprofit sector as well as to bring nonprofits and open source developers and projects together.

This easy-to-read primer aims to help nonprofit organisations understand what free and open source software (FOSS) is, what options are available for their organisations, and how they can access support for using FOSS.

Written primarily in non-technical language, the recently-released primer is accessible to a wide audience, including nonprofit managers with little hands-on technical expertise.

“Choosing and Using Free and Open Source Software: A Primer for Nonprofits includes:
- case-studies of nonprofits of various sizes that are using open source software;
- a process for evaluating whether or not open source is right for an organisation; and
- useful resources and information.
