FYI: International Migrants Day

International Migrants Day is officially celebrated on December 18 every year around the world since 2000. It is an opportunity:
- to recognise the contributions made by millions of migrants to the development and well-being of so many countries in the world;
- to demand an end to all forms of abuse and violence against migrants and their families and promote respect for their basic human rights;
- to call on governments around the world to ratify the United Nations (UN) Convention on Migrant Workers; and
- to hold governments accountable with regard to the rights of migrants.
