Dear Isis Friends and Partners,

The Board of Trustees and the staff of Isis International are pleased to announce the appointment of Cai Yiping as Isis International’s new Executive Director.

Cai Yiping brings with her a rich experience and leadership skills in promoting women’s human rights both internationally and in China. Prior to her coming to Isis, she was Associate professor at the Women's Studies Institute of China, and completed her most recent publication, Find Their Stories: Women in Media, Jiuzhou Publishing House, Beijing, 2007. She has also just completed a major research project; International Conventions and Protection of Women’s Human Rights in China: A Case Study on CEDAW, in Laws and Policies towards Gender Equality, ed. By Tan Lin and Du Jie, Chinese Social Science and Literature Publishing House, Beijing, 2008.

Ms. Cai holds a Master’s Degree in History from Peking University, and was a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow at the School of Journalism, University of Maryland, USA. She served as the Deputy Director of International News Department, China Women's News, Beijing, in 2005.

Cai Yiping has worked on a number of projects with ILO, Unifem, UNDPA and Oxfam.

The Board of Trustees of Isis chose Ms. Cai from a pool of highly qualified women. She brings a set of leadership, research and media skills and experience in women’s human rights activism that will enable Isis International to continue expanding its advocacy and communication for women’s rights and empowerment.

The Isis International Board of Trustees would like to express its appreciation to the transition team and staff for their commitment and support. Special thanks goes to Tesa de Vela, outgoing Associate Director, who will continue with Isis in other capacities; Marilee Karl, founder and honorary chair of Isis; Mary Jane Real, vice chair of the Board, and Marianita “Girlie” Villariba, former executive director of Isis (1994 – 1998).The Isis international staff also expresses its thanks to the Board of Trustees and the General Membership for their active hands-on support during the transition.
