Eight peace advocates have been named N-Peace Awardees 2013.

Role Models for Peace 

Awardees include six women who have made dramatic changes towards peace and reconciliation in their respective countries:

  • Irene SANTIAGO, the Philippines
  • Magdalena BIDAU SOARES, Timor-Leste
  • Valentina SAGALA, Indonesia
  • Thavachsri Charles VIJAYARATNAM, Sri Lanka
  • Shashi Kumary ADHIKARY, Nepal
  • Masuada KAROKHI, Afghanistan

The special categories of the Awards also honor a youth champion of peace from the Philippines and one male recipient who works to advance peace and equality in post-conflict regions in Indonesia. They are:

Emerging Peace Champion

  • Rohaniza USMAN, the Philippines

Male Advocate for Equality

  • Suprayoga HADI, Indonesia

Close to 90 nominations were received across the N-Peace Awards categories this year. A wave of online supporters helped to select the leading women peace activists with a record breaking 70,000 votes received for the nominated candidates. Thousands of supporters also shared the profiles of peace advocates via social media tools.  

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all nominees for their engagement in the N-Peace Awards campaign, which harnesses the power of storytelling to promote women leaders and peace builders in Asia.
