4th Regional Institute on Sexuality, Society, and Culture

The South and Southeast Asia Resource Centre on Sexuality will hold its annual training on sexuality from May 21 to 28, 2007 in Beijing, China.

The 4th Regional Institute on Sexuality, Society, and Culture will examine and explore the implications of the current debate on sexuality issues and its links to culture and society in a regional context through lectures, discussions, films, and exercises.

This year's regional institute aims to provide participants with a deeper understanding of the following:
- Sexuality and Gender
- Sexuality and Reproductive Health
- Sexuality and Pleasure
- Sexuality and Rights
- Issues in Sex Work
- Sexuality and Popular Culture/Representation

The South and Southeast Asia Resource Centre on Sexuality aims to increase knowledge and scholarship on issues of sexuality, sexual health and sexual well being in this region. Dis/organized Pleasures: Changing Bodies, Rights and Cultures

Academics, activists, and any individual interested in sexuality and human rights are welcome to submit abstracts and proposals for the 6th Conference of the International Association for the Study of Sexuality and Culture in Society (IASSCS) to be held in Lima, Peru on June 27-29, 2007.

The conference, entitled “Dis/organized Pleasures: Changing Bodies, Rights and Cultures,” will focus on sexual movements in a changing world, where bodies, cultures, and even the concept of “rights” are evolving. Conference thematic areas include:
- Bodies/Pleasure and Wellbeing
- Sexual Rights and Mobilisation
- Sexual Cultures
- Globalisation, Poverty and Sexuality

Abstracts for paper presentations and poster presentations as well as proposals for sessions must be received by February 28, 2007. All abstracts and proposals must be submitted in English, Spanish, or Portuguese.

In addition, IASSCS is awarding a number of competitive scholarships to individuals from Latin America; Central, South, and South-East Asia; The Pacific; Eastern Europe; Africa; and the Middle East who are working in sexuality related fields or studying human sexuality. Interested applicants may apply for the Conference Scholarship (admission, accommodations, subsistence allowance, and air fare will be covered by IASSCS) and/or Post-Conference Fellowship on specialised sexuality research training to be held on July 2-13, 2007. Those who wish to apply for either or both scholarships should submit an abstract for a paper or poster on or before February 28, 2007.

IASSCS is an international association that promotes the study of sexual identity, desire and experience in specific social and cultural contexts, and facilitate communication about scholarly as well as research and training possibilities between colleagues around the globe.

Through its conferences, IASSCS tries in particular to bring together scholars and activists in sexual rights from all countries to exchange experiences about research and mobilisation in the defence of sexual rights, and to promote good quality sexuality research in the countries of the South, by stimulating young researchers and by building research capacity in specific universities or centres for research.
