Young feminists from the Pacific are invited to join a feminist advocacy training from July 16-21 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Find out how you can participate.

The Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era (DAWN)-Pacific and the Fiji Women’s Rights Movement (FWRM) will jointly organise a feminist advocacy training programme in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea on July 16-21, 2007.

The training will involve 25 young feminist activists from the Pacific, between the age of 25 to 35, who are already engaged, or have a strong interest, in global advocacy work for gender justice, and who wish to sharpen their analytical capabilities and advocacy skills.

The workshop aims to:
- build capacity among young feminist activists especially in understanding linkages between different issues and advocacy agendas/arenas/actors;
- strengthen feminist advocacy work at the global level, and
- deepen analysis in some specific areas, including global trade and sustainable development.

The programme will examine critical issues under the themes of sexual and reproductive health and rights, and political restructuring and social transformation in the context of current debates at the regional and global level, and inter-linkages with issues under other themes. The course will involve lectures and discussions, case study presentations and analysis, organised debates and role-plays, and practical skill building exercises in research, analysis and advocacy.

Deadline for applications is on May 18, 2007.

DAWN is a network of feminist scholars and activists from the South working for economic justice, gender justice, and sustainable and democratic development.
